Antrim Fly Fair

I grew up in Aruba, a Dutch Caribbean island and have been fishing the Salt all my life. It was only when I moved to Ireland 21 years ago that I was introduced to Fly Fishing and fell in love with this amazing fishing method. Catching my first trout on a Bibio I was hooked for life. The work of art of these fly patterns amazed me and soon after that I knew it was something I would love to learn.

I invested on my first Fly tying vice and a Veniard Flytying kit, from there I started practising for countless hours, by watching all these amazing Fly dressers on Youtube and following the step by step tutorials from the Fly Tying Bible (great book for any beginner). I fished the rivers for many years but the Salt always called me back so I decided to give Saltwater Fly Fishing a try. Once I hooked my first Bass on the fly there was no going back from it. From there I started tying Saltwater patterns which now I specialise in these days. Species I mainly target are Bass, Seatrout, Pollock or any species I can catch with my flies on the coast.

Some of my favourite patterns would be Flat Wings Baitfish and Shrimp patterns, I love tying and fishing these as they never let me down.

I never expected to be joining a Pro Team someday but I’m fortunate to have joined the Ahrex and Deercreek Pro Team and became a member of The FlyCo Family in 2020, with recently joining the Easyshrimpeyes Elite tyers team last year. It’s been amazing the support I’ve been getting from these great Fly tying and Fly fishing companies to continue my journey in this sport.
